GENERAL INFORMATION Course 101: Eight sessions (3 hours per session) COURSE DESCRIPTION Unit 101 of the Applied Arabic Studies Course is designed to provide tangible cognitive and communicative grounding to students who are new to the Arabic language as well as to those who may have had some prior technical exposure. This unit will also serve as an introduction to units 102 and 103 of the program. In this series of interactive sessions, students will be thoroughly engaged by the instructor using multiple methods to establish a foundation for speech and comprehension. COURSE PREREQUISITES
INSTRUCTOR Abdul Aziz Pippin was born and raised in Georgia, where he first began his study of the Arabic language as a teenager. He pursued further studies in Yemen, Mauritania, and Morocco, focusing on Arabic grammar, rhetoric, and literature. Since 1998, he has been teaching Arabic in institutes and private schools, as well as translating on a freelance basis. In 2001, he founded the Salik Institute, a night school program in the Washington, DC area offering multi-layered and holistic Arabic courses for adults. In 2005 he began translating and editing full time for Halabi Publications in the Netherlands, with three titles already published and eight more forthcoming.
